Description

CLOSLER was started at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine's Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence as a place to share insight, inspiration, wisdom, and new thinking about clinical excellence from and for health-care professionals around the world. With the goal of sharing thoughtful clinical stories and perspectives to stimulate reflection about providing exceptional care to every patient, CLOSLER takes its name from William Osler, the founder of academic medicine in the U.S. and an early champion of patient-centered care.

This live virtual episode of The Making of a Clinician: A CLOSLER Podcast will be an intimate conversation with a medical student and Johns Hopkins physicians and nurses about their personal stories through medicine and practicing clinical excellence. Topics include burnout, diversity and inclusion in medicine, and the role of the arts and humanities in clinical practice.

This event is open to all but geared toward pre-health students.

Speakers:

Panagis Galiatsatos is a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive lung disease, tobacco cessation, and in the care of critically ill patients in the medical intensive care unit. He is a member of the obstructive lung disease group at Johns Hopkins, oversees the tobacco treatment clinic, and provides teaching to medical students and residents at Johns Hopkins.

Michael Eamonn McCarthy is a current medicine intern in the Johns Hopkins Bayview residency program and a recent graduate of Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia. His professional interests include infectious diseases, creative writing, and bioethics. In his free time, he enjoys watching old movies with his wife.
