Johns Hopkins University experts will offer perspective and analysis of the breaking events occurring in the Middle East in this livestream discussion.

Participants include:

  • James B. Steinberg, dean of the School of Advanced International Studies. He previously served as Deputy Secretary of State (2009-2011), serving as the principal Deputy to Secretary Clinton. He was also vice president and director of Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution.

  • Adria Lawrence, the Aronson Associate Professor of International Studies and Political Science, a joint appointment by the School of Advanced International Studies and the Political Science Department at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. She is a scholar of Middle Eastern and North African politics.

  • Sarah Parkinson, the Aronson Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Studies and an expert in Middle East politics. She is the author of Beyond the Lines: Social Networks and Palestinian Militant Organizations in Wartime Lebanon.

  • Hal Brands, Henry A. Kissinger Distinguished Professor of Global Affairs at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. An expert in U.S. foreign policy, he served as special assistant to the secretary of defense for strategic planning from 2015 to 2016.
