Description

Come earn more at this special information session, featuring the director of the Beinecke scholarship, Matthew Loar, and Johns Hopkins' 2023 Beinecke Scholar Kendra Brewer.

The Beinecke scholarship encourages and enables highly motivated students to pursue research-oriented or creative graduate training in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Each scholar receives $5,000 prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school as a full-time student (paid directly to the school). There are no geographic restrictions on the use of the scholarship, and recipients are allowed to supplement the award with other scholarships, assistantships, and research grants. Scholars are encouraged to begin graduate study as soon as possible following graduation from college and must utilize all of the funding within five years of receiving their bachelor's degree.

A Johns Hopkins nomination is required to apply. To be eligible to seek a nomination, applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals and juniors who expect to graduate between December 2024 and August 2025. They must also plan to enter a research-focused or creative master's or doctoral program in the arts, humanities, or social sciences (i.e., not a Juris Doctor (Doctor of Law), Doctor of Medicine, Master of Public Health, Master of Public Policy, Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Teaching, etc.) and have a documented history of receiving or being eligible to receive need-based financial aid during college (there is a strong preference for Pell Grant–eligible applicants). Please note that the master's portion of a joint bachelor-master's degree is not eligible for funding.

Details about the nomination process and timeline are on the National Fellowships Program's award page for the Beinecke. Applications won't be due until the spring, but don't miss this opportunity to get unique insights on the Beinecke scholarship.
