Serving in roles for organizations that address critical social justice and human rights issues is at the core of Ben Jealous' career, who currently serves as president of the People for The American Way, an organization that defends fundamental rights, fights to dismantle systemic barriers to equitable opportunity, and encourages civic participation. Jealous was recently named executive director of the Sierra Club and was chosen as the youngest-ever president and CEO of the NAACP in 2008. He won the Marylander of the Year for his work on marriage equality, abolishing the death penalty, and passing the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act in 2013.

In 2018, Jealous was the Democratic nominee for governor of Maryland. He's also a social entrepreneurship, criminal justice, and voting rights professor and serves as a board member for Luminary, Aspiration, and Pigeonly. He earned an undergraduate degree from Columbia University in political science and government and a graduate degree in comparative social research from Oxford, where he was a Rhodes scholar.
