Description

The Equal Access in Science and Medicine committee is pleased to welcome Diana M. Cejas to present its spring 2022 lecture. Cejas, a child neurologist and assistant professor of neurology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focuses her clinical work and research on improving care for youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Since surviving cancer and stroke during residency, she has devoted much of her career to patient advocacy and improving communication between health care providers and the disability community, particularly young disabled patients of color. She shares her story and other commentary on disability via essays. Her work has appeared in JAMA Neurology, prestigious literary magazines, and anthologies, including Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century.

The Equal Access in Science and Medicine lecture series was established to feature the perspectives of scientists and clinicians with mental health conditions, disabilities, and chronic illnesses. The lecture will be followed by Q&A. Live captioning (CART) will be provided.
