Billie Holiday Center For Liberation Arts

Description

The Helena Hicks Emancipation School of the Billie Holiday Center for Liberation Arts brings the topics, questions, and methods of Black Studies out of the "Ivory Tower" and into the places of its origin – the community schools, organizations, cultural centers and houses of worship that nurtured 20th century black social movements.

Join Richard Lofton, an assistant professor in the School of Education, as he speaks on the school-to-prison pipeline and implications for Baltimore's youth.

This is one of four mini-courses throughout the spring involving a virtual 40-minute presentation and a 20-minute Q&A session. The event partners are the Johns Hopkins Black Alumni Association, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Union Baptist Church, Sharp Street United Methodist Church, and Saint James' African Episcopal Church.
