Description

Sekile M. Nzinga is the chief equity officer for the state of Illinois and former interim chief diversity officer and associate provost of diversity and inclusion at Northwestern University.

Her book, Lean Semesters: How Higher Education Reproduces Inequity, addresses in depth the reality that women of color, particularly Black women, face compounded exploitation and economic inequality within universities. Nzinga will be interviewed by Natasha Warikoo, professor of sociology at Tufts University.

This event is free and part of the online book conversation series Academic Innovation for the Public Good, organized by Stanford Digital Education and Trinity College. Each event features an author of a recently published book exploring the role of colleges and universities in addressing society's problems. An expert in the author's field will conduct the interview, followed by questions from the audience. Johns Hopkins University is among the sponsors of the conversation series.
