Description

Calling all undergraduate STEM researchers: If you are considering a research career in STEM, please attend this info session offered by the National Fellowships Program (NFP) to learn more about the Goldwater Scholarship. This info session will be repeated on Nov. 3.

Established by Congress in 1986, the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation supports outstanding U.S. students with excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in, and potential for, research careers in the natural sciences, math, and engineering. In spring 2022, the Goldwater Foundation plans to award around 450 scholarships to college juniors and sophomores nominated by universities across the U.S. The scholarship covers eligible expenses up to a maximum of $7,500 per year. Scholarship recipients nominated as sophomores receive up to two years of support, and those nominated as juniors receive one year of support.

To be eligible for Johns Hopkins nomination, you must be a current sophomore or junior (sophomore = at least three but no more than four semesters of undergraduate study ahead, as of September 2022; junior = at least one but no more than two semesters of undergraduate study ahead, as of September 2022). Applicants must also have at least a 3.0 GPA, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and plan to pursue a PhD and a career in research in an eligible STEM field. Students interested in an MD-PhD may apply but should be intent on a research career.

You can find out more about the Goldwater Scholarship on the NFP's website and the Goldwater Foundation's website. If you have questions, please email Kathleen Barry at kbarry18@jhu.edu or stop by the NFP's drop-in office hours.
