Description
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, progress at reducing undernourishment has slowed in Asia and the Pacific in the last five years. Nearly half a billion people in the region remain undernourished, which increases simultaneously with the number of overweight children. This double burden of malnutrition raises a signal to focus efforts in fighting hunger and malnutrition, especially in developing countries.
The economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to threaten and undermine existing efforts to improve nutrition of billions of people in the Western Pacific Region (WPR) who already had problems accessing sufficient quantities of nutritious food before the pandemic. In the fifth session of the IWG Global Knowledge Sharing series, we take a look at how countries can reimagine and transform food systems to increase the affordability of and access to nutritious, safe, and sustainable food in the context of unprecedented public health threats and emergencies.
The event will be hosted by the IWG WPR, with Cecilia Acuin and Daniel Salunga, experts in the field of food and nutrition security.
Delve into a discussion on the state of food and nutrition security during the pandemic and examine solutions to nutrition security issues. A live Q&A session with the audience will be held after the talk.
