Description

The next lecture with the Third Thursdays with the ICTR (Institute for Clinical and Translational Research) Lecture Series is about the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Policy for Data Management and Sharing going into effect January 2023. The new policy applies to all NIH funded and/or conducted research that results in the generation of scientific data. In an effort to make biomedical research findings broadly available, researchers must submit a plan outlining how the scientific data will be managed and shared.

This policy was developed over many years and aims to achieve a culture shift in data sharing stewardship. Taunton Paine, director of the Scientific Data Sharing Policy Division in the NIH Office of Science Policy, will provide an overview of how the final policy was developed, the motivation behind the Policy and how it is intended to achieve its goals, and the future activities NIH plans for implementing the policy. Paine was a key figure in drafting the policy and will be available to answer questions.
