Health Systems Capacity & Governance: Shaping the COVID-19 Response Across the Americas
Description
The International Working Group (IWG) for Health Systems Strengthening is a global collaborative of emerging public health professionals committed to meaningful health systems reform. The IWG is proud to announce a new program called the Global Lecture Series, intended to bring together a range of diverse perspectives on regional and global health systems issues. The IWG has representation from key institutions in each of the six WHO regions, and over the first half of 2021, each regional team will host monthly sessions where academics and practitioners will join us to tackle issues spanning from local community responses to international structures of policy, process, and power. This will be followed by breakout groups and discussions for young health professionals to be a part of the conversation and contribute towards a deliverable.
The IWG Americas Region will be hosting the third session, "Health Systems Capacity & Governance: Shaping the COVID-19 Response Across the Americas," to discuss how health systems capacity and governance have shaped the COVID-19 response across the Americas. A panel of renowned public health practitioners and researchers from across the region of the Americas will speak on how their countries have seen their responses shaped by systems capacity and governance strategies. The session will be moderated by Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, assistant director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and panelists will include Patricio Marquez, Marcia Castro, and Dr. Jennifer Nuzzo. Please join this lively, interactive discussion with the three panelists and share how you have seen health systems capacity and governance affect the pandemic response in your own community.
