Description

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began a year ago, anti-Asian discrimination and violence has risen by 1,900% throughout the U.S. But this isn't the first time Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities have faced discrimination in this country. Why are our stories being heard now? What about this moment is allowing and empowering AAPIs to speak up?

Cori Dioquino, founder and co-executive director of the Asian Pasifika Arts Collective, discusses Asian American identity, the toxic ideals behind the "Model Minority" myth, and how anger has become the unexpected tool that is shaping a much-needed revolution within the AAPI community.

This event is hosted by the Center for Social Concern and the Homewood Student Affairs Professional Development Committee.
