Martin McKee, a professor of European public health and medical director at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, will discuss "How Will We Build Back Better?" presented by the International Working Group for Health Systems Strengthening (IWG) European Region as the inaugural talk for the IWG's Global Lecture Series. The IWG is a global collaborative of emerging public health professionals committed to meaningful health systems reform. Their new program, the Global Lecture Series, is intended to bring together a range of diverse perspectives on regional and global health systems issues. The IWG has representation from key institutions in each of the six WHO regions, and, over the first half of 2021, each regional team will host monthly sessions where academics and practitioners will tackle issues spanning from local community responses to international structures of policy, process, and power. These sessions will be followed by breakout groups and discussions for young health professionals to be a part of the conversation and contribute towards a deliverable.
Martin McKee is a professor of European public health and medical director at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is also research director of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and past president of the European Public Health Association. He is a member of the Independent SAGE in the UK and a Commissioner on the 2020 WHO Pan-European Commission on Health and Sustainable Development. He trained in medicine and public health. Among the highest cited researchers worldwide, he has written extensively on health and health policy, with a particular focus on health in countries undergoing political and social transition.
