Description

Join a conversation, moderated by Dean Eliot A. Cohen, on "Targets of Opportunity in the Global Arena." The discussion will highlight the trials and tribulations faced by Col. (ret.) Craig Osborne during his time as a U.S. Army Commander overseas and his path to resilience. As an Army infantry officer, Osborne led various units across the spectrum of conflict – operating in humanitarian crises, peace-enforcement actions, and several combat deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. His senior staff assignments include serving on the Joint Staff; a combatant command; a combined, joint, and interagency task force deployed to Afghanistan; and a NATO command overseas. Osborne also served as a deputy executive assistant and then special assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon. He later worked as chief of staff to the provost and then executive officer to the university president of the National Defense University in Washington, DC.

Now, as chief of staff at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, Osborne will emphasize key steps and skills to maintaining resilience in the current, challenging global environment.

The Dean's Speaker Series is the highest profile speaker series at Johns Hopkins SAIS. The series will host a diverse array of prominent international affairs practitioners and business leaders for insightful perspectives and thought-provoking discussions on international relations, leadership and other relevant topics that impact our focus areas. This fall will feature distinguished experts around themes such as American foreign policy and the 2020 election, international order after coronavirus, targets of opportunity in the global arena, and race relations, civic engagement, and global social movements. All events require pre-registration and are free and open to the public. Due to COVID-19, all fall events will be held virtually in webinar-format.
