Join contributors to the SAIS Review's 40.1 issue, Ex Amicitia Pax, in a discussion of the uses and limitations of diplomacy amidst a global pandemic and numerous social movements. The issue and event explore themes of diplomacy, from how power plays a role in international negotiations to reflections on various multilateral institutions. Panelists include:
- Carla Freeman, associate research professor of China studies and executive director of the SAIS Foreign Policy Institute
- Sinisa Vukovic, senior lecturer of conflict management and global policy and associate director of the Conflict Management Program
- John Kirton, professor of political science at the University of Toronto
- Daniel Serwer, director of American foreign policy and of conflict management at Johns Hopkins SAIS
- Arsalan Suleman, acting U.S. Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation
- Farah Pandith, first ever Special Representative to Muslim Communities
- Ambassador Dore Gold, former ambassador of Israel to the United Nations
The Dean's Speaker Series is the highest profile speaker series at SAIS. The series will host a diverse array of prominent international affairs practitioners and business leaders for insightful perspectives and thought-provoking discussions on international relations, leadership and other relevant topics that impact our focus areas. This fall will feature distinguished experts around themes such as American foreign policy and the 2020 election, international order after coronavirus, targets of opportunity in the global arena, and race relations, civic engagement and global social movements. All events require pre-registration and are free and open to the public. Due to COVID-19, all fall events will be held virtually in webinar-format.
