Description

Geeta Rao Gupta, senior fellow at the United Nations Foundation, will give a talk entitled "Global Health Equality and Gender Norms" as part of the SAIS Development Roundtable 2020.

Gender norms have an outsize influence on health inequalities, and women, the poor, and marginalized groups often bear the brunt of negative impacts. However, gender norms have long been neglected in public health programming due to beliefs that they are too entrenched to change and too elusive to measure. Rao Gupta will argue that we can tackle harmful gender norms and that now is the time to act if we want to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals for Gender Equality and Good Health and Wellbeing for all.

This talk will be in the context of the recent Lancet series on Gender Equality, Norms, and Health, for which she was a principal co-author.

Hosted in partnership with the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security and SAIS Global Women in Leadership.
