Virtual Workshop: Mindfulness and Stress Management in Times of Crisis
Description
Alyssa Toran, clinical social worker for the mySupport Employee Assistance Program at Johns Hopkins University and Health System, will lead a virtual Mindfulness and Stress Management in Times of Crisis class for the Johns Hopkins Bayview's Branch of the International Association of Administrative Professionals.
During stressful times and moments of crisis, it doesn't take much to become overwhelmed by worry and the potential for catastrophe. In an effort to feel better, we can fall into the trap of trying to make so many changes at once that we end up feeling more dejected and/or overwhelmed than we were initially. When this happens, we may find ourselves putting unnecessary pressure on ourselves, focusing on the negatives, and speaking unkindly to ourselves.
Mindfulness can help us move through this process differently by helping us cultivate patience and compassion for ourselves as well as being more intentional in our actions throughout periods of stress.
This presentation will discuss the practice of mindfulness, our physical, mental and emotional responses to stress, and tools to help you integrate a mindfulness practice into your daily routine to increase resiliency, improve well-being, and decrease stress and worry. If time permits, questions will be taken at the end.
