COVID-19, Climate Change and Environmental Advocacy
Description
COVID-19 poses a particular challenge for climate and environmental activists around the world. Just as activists were gearing up for large-scale climate protests in March and April 2020, governments banned mass gatherings to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19. Activists have had to reconsider their tactics and strategies in a world of social distancing and government lockdowns. How are environmental and climate activists adapting to COVID-19? Are they building new inter-generational and/or transnational solidarities? And how successful will they be at keeping climate change on the global agenda?
This event is hosted by the Bologna Institute for Policy Research at School of Advanced International Studies Europe as part of the Policy Research Virtual Seminar Series. Speakers include:
- Nina Hall: assistant professor of international relations at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Europe. Her core areas of expertise are: international organizations, transnational advocacy, climate adaptation, and global refugee governance.
- Dana R. Fisher, professor of sociology at the University of Maryland. Her research explores democracy, civic participation, activism, and environmental policymaking with recent studies focusing on the youth climate movement and the American Resistance
