Description

Join Karl Blanchet, director of the Geneva Centre for Education and Research in Humanitarian Action, and select panelists as they discuss various lessons emerging from past global outbreaks of infectious disease through multiple perspectives and disciplines. Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2005, H1N1 in 2009, the recent Ebola outbreak in West Africa — each major outbreak has marked a milestone in the history of infectious diseases. Panelists will synthesize what information has surfaced from these challenges to inform efforts to strengthen governance and response in today's COVID-19 pandemic.

Panelists:

  • Sharon Abramowitz, consultant to the UNICEF Communication for Development (C4D)
  • Ngozi Erondu, associate fellow of the Global Health Programme at Chatham House
  • Marc Dubois, independent humanitarian consultant and senior fellow at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies
  • Karl Blanchet, director of the Geneva Centre for Education and Research in Humanitarian Action (moderator)
