This webcast explores how and why countries' responses to COVID-19 have been so varied, what have been the effects, and what lessons governments can learn as they think about preparing for future challenges.

It will stream online on the university's dedicated COVID-19 streaming webpage, coronavirus.jhu.edu/live.

Speakers are:

  • Anne Applebaum, senior fellow with the SNF Agora Institute and associate professor of the practice at the School of Advanced International Studies. She is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author.
  • Ho-fung Hung, professor in the Department of Sociology at Johns Hopkins. His scholarly interests include global political economy, protest, nation-state formation, social theory, and East Asian development.
  • Josh Sharfstein, director of the Bloomberg American Health Initiative. He oversees the Office of Public Health Practice and Training and previously served as the secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and as the principal deputy commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
  • Hahrie Han (moderator), professor in the Department of Political Science at Johns Hopkins and director of the SNF Agora Institute. She specializes in the study of civic and political participation, collective action, and organizing.
