Description

Steven J. Jaret, a postdoctoral fellow at the American Museum of Natural History, will give a talk entitled "Microstructural Deformation in Natural Impacts and Laboratory Experiments" as part of the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences' Mineralogy Lecture Series.

Most planetary surfaces (and the rocks we encounter on them) have been affected by impact cratering. Therefore it is important to understand how impact change silicate minerals so that we can distinguish primary features from impact overprints. This talk will explore micro-structural deformation effects of natural impacts with comparison from other laboratory high-pressure experiments.
