Description

Béla Pintér, director

World Premiere, English version of Hungarian Béla Pintér's award winning new opera, The Champion, directed by Pintér himself, presents true tabloid fare with the tools of opera and politics combined with love and sexual scandal. Presenting a reality laden with repressed secrets, it is a tableau of the public life of politicians, where the decent family life is just a front.

Using the music of Puccini, The Champion tells a story of the Governor of the fictional state of Wynoma, whose tumultuous love life reaches a head after a successful election day. He is the kind of politician you would expect to find in a tabloid: rotten to the core, representing a political elite drowning in its own lies, and helpless as he submerges deeper and deeper in his own morass.

Note: This production contains adult language and behavior, sexual situations, violence, and other content that might be upsetting or objectionable to some patrons. Discretion is advised.
