Description
The Office of Multicultural Affairs' Identity through Art Series continues with Alan Pelaez. Come see Alan Pelaez talk about their experience as an immigrant from Mexico, their Indigenous Heritage, and their career as an artist, and get a chance to create your own art and share your story.
Over the centuries, many artists have used art as a vehicle for exploring questions about identity. Using approaches to art making, artists express the reality and complexities of their identities. This event will allow students to explore and analyze their own identity with a creative lens using paint brushes, canvases, and a variety of colorful paint.
Alan Pelaez is an Afro-Indigenous poet, collage, installation and adornment artist from Oaxaca, México. In their art, they explore the intersections of PTSD, undocumented immigration, Indigeneity, queer feeling, and Black futures. They have received fellowships and/or residencies from Submittable, the Museum of the African Diaspora, VONA/Voices, and the University of California, Berkeley.
