Description

Join the Foundations of Multidisciplinary Design course for a panel discussion by designers from industry, the social sector, and academia to learn how design has influenced their professional and personal journeys.

Panelists:

  1. Gillian Henker, CTO at Sisu Global Health: Henker manages products and technical strategy for Sisu, a medical device company focused on emerging markets. Their first product, Hemafuse, is a surgical tool that recycles a patient's own blood from internal bleeding. Henker is the primary inventor of Hemafuse and has directed the product's development from an idea to fully manufactured device. Henker was named Baltimore's "2016 Technologist of the Year" at Baltimore's Annual Innovation award.

  2. Antoine RJ Wright, UX designer at Fearless Tech: Wright is a user experience designer for Fearless Tech, a Baltimore-based software development firm. Through his designs, he translates complex technologies and processes into applicable, accessible, and usable behaviors and tools. Wright is an experienced organizational strategy and process designer who has worked with various teams and business-forward organizations.

  3. Dr. Orla Wilson, insulin pump hacker, Johns Hopkins professor: Dr. Wilson, a senior lecturer in Material Science at Johns Hopkins, spent over 30 years treating her diabetes according to the mainstream standard. When her daughter was also diagnosed, she joined a growing group of patients to hack their insulin pumps using open-source coding. These artificial pancreas systems provide continuous monitoring and allow for more-predictable, less time-consuming daily routines for Dr. Wilson and her daughter.
