Description

Writer, director, and artist Terence Nance comes to Baltimore to host a screening of his work, followed by a moderated discussion on his filmmaking process and inspirations as part of the Johns Hopkins Film and Media Studies Program Saul Zaentz Visiting Artist Series. Johns Hopkins affiliates and the community at large are encouraged to attend this exciting event that will leave them thinking, feeling, and asking questions about what media is best used for long after it ends.

Nance is best known for his directorial debut An Oversimplification of Her Beauty, which premiered at Sundance in 2012, as well as the avant-garde television series Random Acts of Flyness that aired on HBO in 2018 to critical acclaim. His work is recognized for centering multifaceted black experiences in media and a critique of culture through the lens of race, gender, sex, and politics as well as for his nontraditional, communal approach to filmmaking as it relates to a strong feeling of community.
