Description

Documentary filmmakers have long endeavored to make visible and to give voice to the aspirations and struggles of workers and working communities. This symposium, Objectif travail: les cinéastes documentaires français dans la tourmente/Work in Focus: French Documentary Filmmakers in an Age of Turmoil, highlights the ways in which documentary films from France have taken stock of changes in the workplace from the factory to the school classroom, providing alternative understandings of the cultural imaginary of labor in the age of de-industrialization.

The symposium includes talks by Eric Bulakites, Audrey Evrard, Martine Guyot-Bender, Sam Di Iorio, and Derek Schilling, with distinguished guests, filmmaker Marcel Trillat and cinematographer Julien Trillat.

Schedule:

  • 9:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Charles Commons Barber Conference Room
  • 1:30-5:30 p.m. Hodson Hall, Room 313

Organized by the Centre Louis Marin and co-sponsored by the Center for Advanced Media Studies.
