Description

Why does liberty flourish in some states, but falls to authoritarianism or anarchy in others? At a moment when liberty feels threatened, how can we make it thrive instead? In their new book, James Robinson and coauthor Daron Acemoglu argue that rather than being the natural order of things, political liberty is a rare and delicate balance struck between state and society. Drawing from both history and current events, the authors show that the path to liberty is a "narrow corridor" kept open only by this constant and fundamental struggle.
