Description

Suicide rates in the United States have risen nearly 30% since 1999, and mental health conditions are one of several factors contributing to suicide.

In 2013, suicide was:

  • the second leading cause of death among ages 15-24 years
  • the second leading cause of death among ages 25-34 years
  • the fourth leading cause of death among ages 35-54 years
  • the eighth leading cause of death among ages 55-64 years

This is becoming a national epidemic that requires a multi-faceted approach. The panel will discuss current trends in suicide as well as screening tool(s) and intervention to bring awareness to the problem. While we may not have all the answers to address the increase in suicidality, sharing and bringing awareness is a critical piece of confronting this problem.
