Description

The Sheridan Libraries present a lecture by Dr. Łukasz Bratasz, head of the Cultural Heritage Research Group at the Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, entitled, "New Trends in Climate Control Strategy in Museums & Libraries."

Management of environmental conditions for heritage collections on display, in storage or in transit, have been the focus of vigorous debates in recent years and is increasingly quantifiable by scientific analysis. The interest in the issue has been driven by the growing movement towards green museums or libraries. That is, managing indoor environments in a responsible and efficient manner, especially in terms of reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions while maintaining high standards of collection care. Dr. Łukasz Bratasz will give an overview of current trends in designing spaces for heritage collections based on a better understanding of environmental risks, relative significance of those risks, analysis of capital and energy costs as well as new "passive" solutions.

A reception will follow.
