Description

In celebration of Black History Month, the Dean's Forum is proud to present Emergence Sea: The Identities of Black American Descendants of Slaves, an exhibition of paintings that explore the identities of Black American descendants of slaves. This exhibition features James Terrell and Zsudayka Nzinga Terrell, a husband and wife team of visual artists living in Washington, D.C., who paint afro-futurist and surrealist abstract portraits.

The paintings put everyday life front and center and feature portraits of singers, preachers, mothers, families, and friends. The exhibit is a snapshot into the many colors and tones of Black life in America and what it means to be building a young culture.

For disability accommodations, please contact saisevents@jhu.edu or 202-999-3332 at least one week prior to the event.
