Description

The Energy, Resources and Environment Program's Global Leaders Forum and the Middle East Studies Program present: "Oil Policy in Saudi Arabia and Status of Domestic Reforms."

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) led by Saudi Arabia and its allies including Russia, agreed in December to reduce oil production by 1.2 mbd in an effort to stabilize oil prices. But surging U.S. shale oil output could effectively eat up OPEC's cuts by later this year as the U.S. has become the world's largest crude oil producer.

Jean-François Seznec, a political scientist and adjunct lecturer at the School of Advanced International Studies, and Fareed Mohamedi, managing director of SIA-Energy International, will discuss these developments along with the status of domestic reforms in Saudi Arabia in the wake of the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. This discussion is moderated by Wil Kohl, senior adviser to the Energy, Resources and Environment Program.

A light reception will follow.
