The Hopkins Coalition Against ICE

Description

At this special event put together by the Hopkins Coalition Against ICE, Lydia Walther-Rodriguez, lead organizer for Baltimore for CASA Maryland, will discuss the struggle for migrant justice in Maryland. Khury Petersen-Smith, fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies, will talk about his research on the crisis at the border, migration, and empire. There will be a Q&A following the speakers.

Since last summer, 2000 people have signed a petition calling on Johns Hopkins to immediately terminate its multi-million-dollar contracts with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Six organizations representing both students and community members came together and peacefully demonstrated, including on-campus groups Teachers and Researchers United, the Graduate Representative Organization, and Students Against Private Police. Now come hear long-time organizers talk not only about their work in the immigrant rights movement but how that work informs calls for an end to university-ICE partnerships.
