Description

Following a screening of the 2018 documentary Not in Our Neighborhood, award-winning director Kurt Orderson and award-winning co-producer Najma Nuriddin will participate in a panel discussion and Q&A along with:

  • Daniel Pasciuti, an assistant professor of Sociology at Georgia State University
  • Alessandro Angelini, an assistant profession of Anthropology at Johns Hopkins
  • Ricardo Jacobs, a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at Johns Hopkins

The documentary cohesively facilitates an international dialogue on gentrification and spatial apartheid by exploring the parallels among the current urban environments in three seemingly disparate cities: São Paulo, Cape Town, and New York.

The screening is sponsored by the Arrighi Center for Global Studies and co-sponsored by the Program in Racism, Immigration, and Citizenship, Program in Latin American Studies, and Billie Holiday Project for Liberation Arts.

The film screening will be preceded by a reception starting at 5 p.m.
