Description
Johns Hopkins celebrates a century of nutritional discovery for public health, commemorating publication of the first edition of Elmer V. McCollum's "The Newer Knowledge of Nutrition" in 1918, America's first modern textbook in nutritional science.
Over the century, the Bloomberg School of Public Health has established a legacy of leadership, discovery, and action to advance public health nutrition. A special program has been prepared by the Center for Human Nutrition to recognize the school's origins, discoveries, leadership, current frontiers, and vision in this critical domain of public health.
Includes the following events:
- The 10th George G. Graham Lecture , Noon–1:15 p.m., Sheldon Hall: Kelly Brownell, director of the World Food Policy Center at Duke University
- Hopkins Nutrition Centennial Symposium, 1:30–4:10 p.m., Sheldon Hall: Speakers from multiple centers in the Schools of Public Health and Medicine
- Our Hungry Planet: What the World Eats, a photo journey, 4:30– 5:30 p.m., Sommer Hall: Peter Menzel and Faith D'Aluisio, award-winning photo-journalists; complimentary copies of What I Eat: Around the World in 80 Diets will be available to the first 350 attendees
