Transforming state education policy: The money, the policies, the politics
Description
What does it take to move state education policy? Who needs to be at the table? Which pragmatic compromises must policymakers consider? What constitute the most significant barriers to success, and how are they overcome? These questions are urgent and, in Maryland, especially timely in light of the Maryland Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education.
The Johns Hopkins School of Education and the Institute for Education Policy examine the challenges of systemic change and the political compromises that make them possible.
Speakers include:
- Brit Kirwan, former chancellor and CEO of the University System of Maryland and chair of the Maryland Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education
- Bruce Baker, professor at Rutgers Graduate School of Education
- Myles Mendoza, executive director of Empower Illinois
- Annette Campbell Anderson, associate professor at Johns Hopkins School of Education
The talk will be moderated by Christopher Morphew, dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Education.
