Big night at the ballpark

Hopkins crowd cheers on the O's as they pull off an 11th-inning win

Nearly 700 members of the Johns Hopkins community—faculty and staff and their families and friends—attended Hopkins Night at Camden Yards on Sept. 9. The Baltimore Orioles faced off against the Pittsburgh Pirates and gave the crowd a game to remember. The O's pulled off the win in extra innings, clinching the victory in the 11th inning with a final score of 3-2.

Hopkins attendees cheered on the home team wearing limited-edition black baseball hats featuring the Hopkins Blue Jay.

Throwing out the first pitch on behalf of Johns Hopkins was Nijah Howard. Howard, a senior at Archbishop Curley High School, is a patient at Johns Hopkins Hospital and receives care at Sibley Memorial Hospital for a rare form of brain cancer. Also ahead of the game, Hopkins received a Heavy Hitters award for selling more than 300 tickets and an autographed baseball, both accepted on behalf of Johns Hopkins by Nicole Iarrobino of the Office of Government, Community, and Economic Partnerships.
