/ Published Oct 29, 2024As each academic year begins, the Johns Hopkins Black Faculty and Staff Association hosts a fall leadership welcome reception to bring together its members, Johns Hopkins University and Medicine leaders, and student leaders.
This year's event took place Oct. 23 in Mudd Hall on the Homewood campus. Among those joining and making remarks were BFSA President Jerrell Bratcher; JHU President Ron Daniels; Katrina Caldwell, JHU chief diversity officer; Meredith Stewart, JHU interim vice president for human resources; Robbie Shilliam, chair of the Political Science Department in the Krieger School; Roland Thorpe, JHU associate vice provost for faculty diversity; and James Calvin, professor of practice and associate dean for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the Carey Business School.
The BFSA was founded in 1995 by seven Black faculty and staff members from different departments to help ensure the fair and equitable treatment of Blacks at JHU. Its mission is to foster a culture of unity by advocating for the professional growth and welfare of faculty, staff, and students through collaboration, service, education, research, outreach, and cultural activities. BFSA also supports Johns Hopkins' pursuit of an inclusive community by building strong partnerships between key stakeholders across the enterprise.
