JHU kicks off its 2024 United Way campaign

The long-standing partnership raises donations for nonprofits working to improve the well-being of the university's neighbors

Johns Hopkins University kicks off its 2024 United Way fundraising campaign with a virtual meeting at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11. All faculty and staff are invited to participate and are asked to register in advance.

The annual campaign, part of a long-standing partnership with the United Way of Central Maryland, raises donations for nonprofit organizations working to improve the well-being of JHU's neighbors, with a focus on supporting three important areas: education, financial stability, and health.

The 2024 campaign chair is Maria Tildon, vice president for government, community, and economic partnerships.

Each year, the campaign allows supporters to designate their financial pledge in the way that is most meaningful to them. Employees who donate $100 or more have the option to designate their United Way contribution to a nonprofit organization or charity of choice who are working with underserved communities in the Johns Hopkins footprint.

During the 2023 campaign, Johns Hopkins faculty and staff raised $451,549.44 through the United Way partnership.

"This effort exemplifies how we can work together to ensure individuals and families are taken care of during this ongoing global health crisis and advance our common mission to sustain the communities of which we are a part," wrote President Ron Daniels and Tildon in an email sent today to employees.
