Faculty appointments and promotions: March 2022

Newly recognized are in Education, Engineering, Medicine, and Public Health

The following appointments and promotions were approved by the university's board of trustees at its March meeting.

Bloomberg School of Public Health

Jackie Agnew has been appointed professor emerita in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering, retroactive to Jan. 1.

Gilbert Burnham has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of International Health, retroactive to Jan. 1.

Andrea Gielen has been appointed professor emerita in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society, retroactive to Feb. 28.

Kristin Mmari has been appointed a Bloomberg Professor of American Health in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health, effective April 1.

Vicente Navarro has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Health Policy and Management, retroactive to Nov. 12, 2021.

Terrinieka Powell has been appointed a Bloomberg Professor of American Health in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health, effective April 1.

School of Education

Laurie U. deBettencourt has been appointed professor emerita, effective July 1.

School of Medicine

Bimal Ashar has been promoted to the rank of professor of clinical medicine, retroactive to Feb. 1.

Cynthia M. Boyd has been appointed to the Mason F. Lord Professorship in Geriatric Medicine, effective March 4.

Julie Brahmer has been named the inaugural recipient of the Marilyn Meyerhoff Professorship in Oncology within the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, effective June 1.

William R. Brody has been appointed professor emeritus of radiology, retroactive to March 1, 2009.

Megan Collins has been named the inaugural recipient of the Allan and Claire Jensen Professorship in Ophthalmology, effective Feb. 1.

Andrew Ewald has been named the inaugural recipient of the Virginia DeAcetis Professorship in Basic Science Research, effective July 1.

James C. Fackler has been promoted to the rank of professor of anesthesiology–critical care medicine and pediatrics, effective Feb. 1.

Sheldon Gottlieb has been appointed associate professor emeritus of medicine/cardiology, retroactive to Dec. 2, 2021.

Carolyn E. Machamer has been appointed professor emerita of cell biology, retroactive to Jan. 3.

Mark A. Marzinke has been promoted to the rank of professor of pathology, retroactive to Feb. 1.

David E. Newman-Toker has been named the inaugural recipient of the David Robinson Professorship in Vestibular Neurology in the Department of Neurology, effective March 11.

Roger H. Reeves has been appointed professor emeritus of physiology, retroactive to Jan. 1.

Cynthia Wolberger has been named the inaugural recipient of the Brown Advisory Colleagues Professorship in Scientific Innovation, effective July 1.

Whiting School of Engineering

Marc Donohue has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, effective July 1.
