Jhpiego country director to lead Guinea's COVID-19 Scientific Commission

Efforts focus on curbing community-level transmission

Yolande Hyjazi, Jhpiego country director in Guinea and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Conakry and vice dean for research at its medical school, has been named president of the COVID-19 Scientific Commission of Guinea. In this position, she leads 17 experts who are advising the government on strategies, priorities, and resource allocation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As Jhpiego country director, Hyjazi has played a key role in assisting Guinea's health system during the Ebola crisis to ensure that women and families in West Africa receive quality services. The COVID-19 Scientific Commission, she says, is focusing its efforts on curbing community-level transmission in order to avoid dire consequences.
