Faculty appointments and promotions: December 2019

Newly recognized are in Advanced International Studies, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, and Public Health

The following faculty appointments and promotions were approved by the university's board of trustees at its meeting on Dec. 6.

Bloomberg School of Public Health

Shima Hamidi has been appointed a Bloomberg Professor of American health in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering.

Tamar Mendelson has been promoted to the rank of professor with tenure in the Department of Mental Health.

Victoria M. O'Keefe has been appointed the first holder of the Mathuram Santosham Chair in Native American Health in the Department of International Health.

Melissa L. Walls has been appointed a Bloomberg Professor of American health in the Department of International Health.

Krieger School of Arts and Sciences

Alexander Hertel-Fernande has been appointed associate professor, with tenure, in the Department of Political Science.

Gil Refaelhas been appointed professor, with tenure, in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Sasha Turner has been appointed associate professor, with tenure, in the Department of History.

School of Advanced International Studies

Matthias M. Matthijs has been appointed associate professor of international political economy, with tenure.

School of Medicine

William S. Anderson has been appointed to the A. Earl Walker, MD Professorship in Functional Neurosurgery, effective May 1, 2020.

Ramalingam Chellappa has been appointed professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and endorsed as a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor.

Sasha du Lac has been promoted to the rank of professor of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery, with secondary appointments in the departments of Neurology and Neuroscience.

Jonathan E. Golub has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Medicine.

Julie E. Hoover-Fong has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Pediatrics and in the Institute of Genetic Medicine.

Geetha Jayaram has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Charles J. Lowenstein has been reappointed to the rank of professor of medicine.

Shawn E. Lupold has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Urology.

Andrew S. McCallion has been promoted to professor in the Department of Genetic Medicine, with secondary appointments in the departments of Medicine, Pediatrics, and Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology.

Kathryn M. McDonald has been appointed professor in the Department of Medicine and endorsed as a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor.

Cameron G. McDougall has been appointed to the Salisbury Family Professorship in the Department of Neurosurgery.

Esteban Mezey has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Medicine.

Barbara R. Migeon has been appointed professor emerita in the Department of Genetic Medicine.

Robert E. Miller has been appointed associate professor emeritus in the Department of Pathology.

Peter J. Mogayzel Jr. has been appointed the first holder of the Menowitz/Rosenstein Professorship of Pediatric Respiratory Sciences in the Department of Pediatrics.

Carol D. Morris has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, with a secondary appointment in Oncology.

Daniel Y. Song has been promoted to the rank of professor of radiation oncology, with secondary appointments in the departments of Oncology and Urology.

Katsuyuki "Ken" Taguchi has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science.

M. Christine Zink has been appointed professor emerita in the Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology.

Whiting School of Engineering

Suchi Saria has been promoted to associate professor with indefinite tenure in the Department of Computer Science.
