Faculty appointments and promotions: October 2018

Newly recognized are in Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Medicine, and Public Health

The following faculty appointments and promotions were approved by the university's board of trustees at its Oct. 12 meeting.

Bloomberg School of Public Health

Michael J. Klag, dean emeritus, has been appointed first holder of the Second Century Distinguished Professorship, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

Tamar Mendelson has been appointed a Bloomberg Professor of American Health in the Department of Mental Health.

Carey Business School

Andrew Ching has been appointed professor with tenure.

Krieger School of Arts and Sciences

Brendan Daley has been appointed associate professor, with tenure, in the Department of Economics, and to hold the Ralph S. O'Connor Professorship in Economics, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

Hent de Vries has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature.

Jennifer Anna Gosetti-Ferencei has been appointed professor, with tenure, in the Department of German and Romance Languages and Literatures, and as the William Kurrelmeyer Professor of German.

Steven A. Gross has been promoted to professor, with tenure, in the Department of Philosophy.

Harris J. Silverstone has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Chemistry.

James Taylor has been promoted to professor, with tenure, in the Department of Biology.

Rosemary F.G. Wyse has been appointed the Alumni Centennial Professor.

School of Medicine

Joel N. Blankson has been promoted to professor of medicine, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Molecular/Comparative Pathobiology.

Kathleen H. Burns has been promoted to professor of pathology, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Oncology.

Nadia N. Hansel has been promoted to professor of medicine.

Sally E. Mitchell has been appointed professor emerita in the Department of Radiology.

Paul B. Rosenberg has been promoted to professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.

Kristin A. Riekert has been promoted to professor of medicine.

Whiting School of Engineering

Alexis Battle has been promoted to associate professor, with indefinite tenure, in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Grace S. Brush has been appointed professor emerita in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering.

Paulette Clancy has been appointed professor, with indefinite tenure, in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

Kimia Ghobadi has been appointed to a John C. Malone Assistant Professorship, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

Rachel Karchin has been promoted to professor, with indefinite tenure, in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Thao D. Nguyen has been promoted to professor, with indefinite tenure, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Harihar Rajaram has been appointed professor, with indefinite tenure, in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering.
