For the 1,500 or so graduates-to-be who streamed into Royal Farms Arena on May 24, Commencement was about claiming the Johns Hopkins diplomas that they'd worked so hard to receive.
But for the 200 employees who had volunteered to work at the event, the day was about making sure that all the details were perfect and that the ceremony went off without a hitch. Their duties included assisting shuttle riders, greeting guests, handing out programs, robing the principals and faculty, ushering attendees to their seats—and making sure that all the diplomas got to their rightful recipients.
