Faculty appointments and promotions: February and March 2018

Newly recognized are in Public Health, Arts and Sciences, SAIS, Medicine, and Engineering

The following appointments and promotions have been recently approved by the university's board of trustees.

Bloomberg School of Public Health

Michelle C. Carlson has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Mental Health, retroactive to Nov. 1, 2017.

Michel A. Ibrahim has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Epidemiology.

Thomas A. Louis has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Biostatistics.

Clive J. Shiff has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, retroactive to July 1, 2017.

Daniel W. Webster has been appointed the first Bloomberg Professor of American Health in the Department of Health Policy and Management.

Krieger School of Arts and Sciences

Stefanie Ann DeLuca, the James Coleman Associate Professor, has been promoted to full professor and holder of the James Coleman Professorship, with tenure, in the Department of Sociology.

Anne E. Lester has been appointed associate professor, with tenure, and holder of the John W. Baldwin and Jenny Jochens Chair in European, Medieval, or Nordic History, in the Department of History, effective July 1, 2018.

SAIS

Davesh Kapur has been appointed to the Starr Foundation Professorship of South Asia Studies, with tenure, effective July 1, 2018.

David A. Steinberg has been appointed associate professor of international political economy, with tenure.

School of Medicine

Michael C. Ain has been promoted to professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, with a secondary appointment in Neurosurgery, effective Dec. 1, 2017.

Dan E. Arking has been promoted to professor in the Department of Medicine.

Chetan Bettegowda has been appointed the first holder of the Jennison-Novak Families Professorship in the Department of Neurosurgery.

Zaver M. Bhujwalla has been appointed to the William R. Brody Professorship in the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science.

Jaishri O. Blakeley has been appointed the first holder of the Marjorie Bloomberg Tiven Professorship in Neurofibromatosis in the departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Oncology, effective July 1, 2018.

Robert C. Bollinger has been appointed to the Raj and Kamla Gupta Endowed Professorship in Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine.

Anne M. Comi has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Neurology, with a secondary appointment in Pediatrics.

Peter L. Gehlbach has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Ophthalmology.

Edward W. Harhaj has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Oncology.

Jennifer S. Lawton has been appointed to the Richard Bennett Darnall Professorship in the Department of Surgery, retroactive to July 1, 2017.

Alessandro Olivi has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Neurosurgery.

Akrit Sodhi has been appointed to the Branna and Irving Sisenwein Professorship in Ophthalmology, effective April 20, 2018.

Michael B. Streiff has been promoted to the rank of professor in the Department of Medicine.

Akila N. Viswanathan has been appointed and simultaneously promoted to the rank of professor of radiation, oncology, and molecular radiology, with secondary appointments in the departments of Oncology and of Gynecology and Obstetrics, retroactive to July 1, 2016.

Moody D. Wharam Jr. has been appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences.

David S. Zee has been appointed the first holder of the David S. Zee, M.D., Professorship in the Department of Neurology, effective May 2, 2018.

Whiting School of Engineering

Todd P. Coleman has been appointed professor, with indefinite tenure, in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, effective July 1, 2018.

Mark Dredze has been appointed to a John C. Malone Associate Professorship in the Department of Computer Science.

Three professors have been appointed to John C. Malone Assistant Professorships. They are Chien-Ming Huang in the Department of Computer Science, Suchi Saria in the departments of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics and Statistics, and Jeffrey H. Siewerdsen in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

René Vidalhas been appointed to the Herschel L. Seder Professorship in Biomedical Engineering.
