Looking for something a little more exciting than a picnic this summer? There's plenty happening at venues and museums across Baltimore—and as a Johns Hopkins employee you have access to a range of special discounts for not only you but your friends and family, too.

At downtown's historic Hippodrome Theatre, where you can enjoy 40 percent off your ticket prices, the summer stage will feature the magic of "endurance artist" David Blaine on July 8, following a weekend run of the Broadway hit musical Finding Neverland. In August, look for a tour stop from KIDZ BOP performing pop music hits, with singalongs encouraged for those who want to learn the group's playlist in advance.

To use your Johns Hopkins discount, order theater tickets online using the special-offer code from the Office of Work, Life and Engagement.

The office can also shave down your ticket prices at Baltimore's mainstay family destination: the National Aquarium, home to more than 20,000 sea critters, coral reef exhibits, and the recently added Living Seashore, where you can pet horseshoe crabs and stingrays.

For general admission tickets, Johns Hopkins employees can take $8 off the cost for adults, and $5 off for kids when ordering online using the savings code from Work, Life and Engagement.

For extras this summer beyond the JHU discount, explore special offerings such as dolphin encounters, the Icky, Creepy, Slimy, Cool Tour, or even a sleepover night with the sharks.

For animals on drier land, check out the elephants, polar bears, chimps, zebras, tortoises, and dozens of other species at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore in Druid Hill Park. Your discount will take $4 off the general admission price for kids, and $6 off for adults. To catch penguin feedings and zookeeper chats on featured animals, time your visit according to the zoo's daily schedule.

For extras this summer, check out special events such as the Stroller Safari for toddlers, a breakfast with the animals, or—for the grown-ups—paint nights or yoga. (JHU discounts apply only to admission, not to specially ticketed events.)

To take in a little history, consider the B&O Railroad Museum, where you can see, touch, hear, and explore the most important railroad collection in America. The Johns Hopkins discount gets you $7 off general admission for adults and $1 off for kids.

The museum's busy summer schedule includes an interactive Under the Big Top circus week, a railroad-themed summer reading program, and toddler playtimes with museum mascot Choo Choo Blue, among other programs. Budding scientists might enjoy a new summer STEM series, Evolution Engine, which merges railroad tech with—dinosaurs.

In advance of July 4, take a "patriotic ride" aboard the Mile One Express, the first mile of commercial track laid in America (additional fees apply).

For the specials at the B&O museum and zoo, first call Work, Life and Engagement at 443-997-4772 or email worklife@jhu.edu to check for availability. To buy tickets, you can then visit the office at Johns Hopkins at Eastern or send a check or money order.
