Some perks of working at Johns Hopkins are cool—very cool. So when those Baltimore temperatures start soaring, remember the JHMI Alumni Pool, where you can loll around from Memorial Day to Labor Day. And if you buy a season's pass before it opens May 29, you'll get a discount.

Because it's situated next to the Denton A. Cooley Center on the East Baltimore campus, the pool traditionally caters to the medical community, but access is open to all Hopkins employees and affiliates, whether Cooley members or not.

The outdoor pool, located at 1620 McElderry St., has four 25-yard lap lanes, a deep end, and a wading section, along with a deck area, locker rooms, showers, and towel rentals. It's open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. And, for those interested in morning lap swims, it opens for that purpose from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, water aerobics classes are offered throughout the summer, with the schedule posted on the Cooley Center's fitness calendar.

Season passes vary from $60 to $230, based on your affiliation with Hopkins and the bundle you want. A regular pass for an employee is $110, and options for couples and families are also available. Children under 6 get in for free. Pre-opening discounts—making your purchases by May 28—slash $10 or $11 from each type of season pass.

Alternatively, if you're looking for a more casual arrangement, you can opt for a day pass ($8 each visit for age 6 and up) or for a 10-visit pass ($65).

To purchase passes, go to the front desk at the Cooley Center to complete an application. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted.
