TSA PreCheck is coming to the East Baltimore campus.
When the expedited screening program set up shop at Homewood in September, about 400 people signed up to make their air travel more relaxed.
Now those low-risk travelers can use their "known traveler number" when making airline reservations, and they no longer need to remove their shoes, outerwear, or belts; unpack their laptops; or adhere to the guidelines for carrying liquids in small amounts.
"Following the excellent turnout for the first TSA event, we are pleased to offer another opportunity for our colleagues to sign up for this valuable service," says Amy Page, director of Johns Hopkins travel and expense programs. "It's clear there are many people who want to start taking some of the stress out of their travel."
The TSA PreCheck Mobile Enrollment Center will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. from Monday, Dec. 5, through Friday, Dec. 9, in the Wolfe Street Circle in front of the Johns Hopkins Hospital. (Nearest GPS address is 600 N. Wolfe St.)
All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to participate and may bring family members who also wish to enroll. The requirements and $85 application fee apply to each individual.
Participants will need to make an appointment online and arrive with documentation of identity and citizenship along with the application fee, which can be paid by credit card, money order, company check, or certified/cashier's check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted.
On site, applicants will be fingerprinted for a background check. Once the background check is completed—typically within 30 days—qualified low-risk applicants will receive their known traveler number.
To participate in this local enrollment event, you should pre-enroll. Fill out steps 1 through 4, type in your location as "Baltimore, MD," and click on the magnifying glass icon. Choose the location "Baltimore, MD, 600 N. Wolfe St." and click Next at the bottom of the screen. For the Final Step, select an appointment time (first available shows, but you can use the drop-down menu to choose a different date and/or time). Make sure to make note of your appointment because no reminder will be sent.
Today, TSA PreCheck has more than 450 lanes at 180 U.S. airports. Approved travelers can use the select security checkpoints when flying on the 19 carriers that currently participate in the program; among them are Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, OneJet, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, Virgin America, and WestJet.
