Get ready for our Home-Buying Extravaganza! Homeownership counseling workshop comes to Johns Hopkins

Free workshop for prospective buyers is scheduled for Aug. 18

To help employees prepare to purchase a home in Eager Park on Sept. 10, Live Near Your Work has scheduled the Belair-Edison Neighborhoods Inc. counseling agency to come to Johns Hopkins for a free counseling workshop. That's a $100 savings for each homebuyer.

Counselors will lead the 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. workshop on Thursday, Aug. 18, at Johns Hopkins at Eastern. Lunch will be provided.

After attending the workshop, prospective homebuyers will:

  • Sign up for a one-on-one counseling session with Belair-Edison Neighborhoods Inc.
  • Gather necessary financial documents
  • Provide the documents to Belair-Edison Neighborhoods Inc.
  • Receive the homeownership counseling certificate that is required to apply for a LNYW grant

Important: If a co-borrower will be listed on the sales contract, he or she must attend counseling. If homebuyers are unable to attend the Aug. 18 workshop, there are other ways to obtain a homeownership counseling certificate. The $100 savings is available only to employees who attend the Aug. 18 workshop at Johns Hopkins.

On Sept. 10, for one day only, the LNYW home-buying grant increases from $17,000 to $36,000 for houses in the Eager Park neighborhood. All buyers participating in the Home-Buying Extravaganza must have a homeownership counseling certificate, a pre-qualification letter from a lender, and a $1,000 deposit in order to line up for a new Ryan Homes or substantially renovated townhouse in Eager Park/EBDI.

Katie Schroeder, LNYW program manager, can answer all your questions. You can reach her at 443-997-7000 or worklife@jhu.edu. If you haven't already seen it, check out the video about Eager Park.

You, and a co-borrower if you have one, must register online. (Register your co-borrower as a guest because seating is limited.)

Parking at Eastern is free in the visitor lot. The Johns Hopkins Shuttle makes frequent runs between campuses.
