Last year 100 Johns Hopkins affiliates laced up their running shoes to support Marian House, and this year's organizers are hoping to ratchet up even higher Team Hopkins' participation in the annual Marian House Race to Embrace Independence 5K Run and Walk.
Not only do they want to raise awareness of the organization, which provides supportive services to homeless women and their children, but they want to help strengthen its coffers, which have been affected by HUD's recent cut of $4M to Baltimore City nonprofits that provide transitional housing and supportive services.
The race—which is part of the President's Day of Service—begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Lake Montebello. Registration fees are $35 per 5K Runner/5K Walker/Family Fun Run for an adult ($40 after Sept. 16) and $20 per Family Fun Run for children under 11 (2 and under are free).
To learn more about the race and to register, go to the race website, click the Register Today button, and then go to Join an Existing Team and select Team Hopkins. Fill out your individual information and submit payment. Tech shirts are guaranteed for the first 500 adult registrants.
In addition to the official Marian House 5K race shirt, you will receive a Team Hopkins T-shirt to wear on race day.
All shirts are fitted, so order one size up if you prefer a loose fit.
