Starting Tuesday, Nov. 25, through Monday, Dec. 1, a crane rigging operation will take place to install new electrical equipment in the M-Level of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library. Work will involve the use of heavy equipment, temporary access restrictions, and safety measures in the surrounding area.
Dates and activity schedule:
- Tuesday, Nov. 25: Protective matting installed over newly laid brick pavers
- Wednesday, Nov. 26: Pre-staging of crane, counterweights, and electrical equipment
- Friday, Nov. 28 (6 a.m. to 8 p.m.): Full crane operations (rigging day)
- Monday, Dec. 1 (until 9 a.m.): Removal of staging equipment and site restoration
Area and access impacts:
- Driveway restrictions adjacent to the South Chiller Plant and Maryland Hall during staging and rigging
- Restricted access to MSEL, Brody Learning Commons,, and Maryland Hall during the crane lift
- Reduced parking along the South Chiller Plant driveway
- No parking on the BLC back road (road to the right of Maryland Hall) for the duration of operations; "No Parking" signage will be posted
Safety measures:
- Protective matting will be placed to protect newly installed pavers
- Staged equipment positioned tight to the curb to maintain limited delivery access
- Work scheduled during a campus closure to reduce community impact
- Flaggers, barriers, and communication checks implemented before lifting activities
